What's next for videogames?

I was thinking about this the other day. My first real videogame console (unless you count Pong) was the Atari 2600. There were other systems but none offered much improvement over the 2600. The next major leap in technology came with the NES and the graphic improvements and huge leaps in game playability. Then the SNES with it's improved graphics. This is where the world of videogames really took off. There were other 16-bit systems, but they were basically just more of the same with minor touches here and there. Then came the PlayStation, which moved into the realm of Compact Discs and Polygonal graphics. A major improvement over the SNES. IMO, the PS2 is more of a minor upgrade to what the PSX offered. It's basically just improved graphics and DVD capability. So, the question is, what is the next big thing to come along and move videogame technology forward?

1. Atari 2600
2. NES
3. SNES
4. PlayStation
5. ???

i started off with the Vextrix Home Arcage System (my foot is bigger then it)
whats coming next...
PLayStation 9 with the Mind COntroL Chip
(if you guys remember the commerical)

hmmmm I think the graphics will someday be REAL somehow....

I think by playstation he meant the entire family, psx psone ps2 the other psx... :)

actually he mentioned he doesn't consider the PS2 to deserve to be on the list cause he thinks it's just a super-upgraded PSX

I dunno really....As far as graphics, and stuff go...They can't get a whole lot better than they already are. Some games actually look like a movie! Unless they can produce *Better than Life* graphics...Can't be improved to much.
I think they'll start making games with a lot more gameplay, and a lot more freedom to explore (most of them).

Really, my narrow mind can't think of to much more than that. It's hard to imagine how they can really improve an extremely lot. I mean...You can look at SNES, and be like "whoa paper graphics...Wonder if they'll ever make em better?" ;). But now you look at the graphics and are like "DAMN! That's so real it's crazy!"
So, IMO as far as the console goes..There just going to keep releasing systems that are faster, more compact, slightly improved graphics, etc.
And the games of course...It's gonna be like 200 hours to beat some games within the next 20 years ;).

Interaction.

This will be the next big target point in videogames.

it will be the games that you play in like in the movie Arcade or in BAtman.

They put you in a huge tub or jello or color water, with a head viser, and an Oxygen tube to your nose and mouth. and you play the games like in Spy Kids 3-D

LOL..IN my eyes they look almost real. There isn't a HUGE difference between a powerful PC than XBox, or Gamecube as far as graphics....I can't tell to much difference...Looking at the screen.

Would you agree that certain games (ps2, XBox, Gc) look almost real?

Use some logic if you do....How can graphics be better than Real life? I said they would improve slightly, but unless they can make games Better than life...They aren't going to be improved that much.

So, I must just be blind ;).
