Alright, I have this real bad Acid Reflux Disease problem...When i say real bad don't just mean a little bit of heartburn either. Like every morning before school I have so many acids in my stomache i'm pretty much destined to throw up before leaving the house. I've even stopped eating things that cause heartburn like Pizzas, chocolates, I drink nothing but water (no pops whatsoever)...I also take some of the strongest medications available, but I might as well be taking Aspirin for acid reflux cuz I think it'd do me as good as the pills. My esphogus (throat) gets ulcerated a lot from all the acids, and have trouble swallowing, have trouble breathing because it's all in my throat sometimes, and sometimes heartburn...

There is a way to correct it though, and pretty much never have the problem again...Basically, the reason people have acid reflux is because there LES (lower esphogus sphincter) is suppose to take down food, but not let it come back up...People with acid reflux there LES is usually weak, and thus allowing food to come up..
The only way to fix this is to have surgery and go in and tighten it up...

As far as being scared of the surgery or anything I don't really care...actually want to have it, but I kind of have something holding me back...I lift weights, and box, and actually will be boxing in ring next weekend...SO, if I have this surgery done even though in a few days you'll be able to function you still really aren't suppose to do anything like lift weights, or anything to effect it for like 6 weeks it says...

So, what do you guys think I should do? I really want to get rid of the problem, but I really have to workout as well....I was thinking maybe one day if I ever got hurt and had to lay off the weights anyways then I'd just do it then, but don't know how much more my throat can take...You can get cancer in your throat from acid reflux...I was thinking maybe do it...and instead of giving myself 6 weeks just slowly do things after like a week, and pray that it all doesn't **** up....

I did'nt have the same problem as you, but a few years back i broke my ankle in work.

And was told to stay of my feet for a few weeks (i think it was 5 weeks)

Well i was really stuck for money, so after 2 weeks they removed the plaster and strapped up my leg very good.
I still could not fit my foot into my shoes cause they wrapped it up so good.

So i put my left foot into a steel toe cap boot and my broken one
into a LOL sandle LOL. (it was the only thing i could fit it into!!!

Anyway because i was so stuck for money i went back out to work. (im a bricklayer, working in construction sites).

After i finished the week i relized my foot had blown away up!
I went back to the hospital, and they had to put it back into plaster.
To cut along story short, im on disablity now, and can never go back to the building site again to work.

I ****ed up my leg, and your going to **** yourself up primenal if you get the surgery and start working out again after a week.

You should get the surgery right away, and sit yourself down
    for a few weeks.

    My 2 cents buddy.

Have it done. Im sure the stress and pain that will be releived for the rest of your life is worth a 6 week stop to some activities. From what you tell me, you go through alot of pain from all the problem you have, why not get rid of one of the problems, you can always resume your weights, and I bet a few weeks off of them wont turn you into a little bitch.

LOL, yea...but it's kind of a bad time to lose 6 weeks...Stepping into the ring, about to graduate, get a job, etc...I think I'll just get it ASAP, and then see how I feel from there. I'm a pretty fast healer, but I also know i'm stupid when it comes to pushing myself...I scare myself HAHA. I do have trouble breathing sometimes with all that stuff in my throat so I guess even if I would box in the ring I wouldn't have 100% endurance...Not even near that...So, I have an appointment with a G.I doctor who specializes in those types of things on Monday (there may run a scope down my throat to check out if it is ulcerated like they've done b4), but think I'm going to see if they can just hospitalize me, and do the next day.
I'm also only 18, and some doctors don't really like to work on younger people so hopfully he'll be willing to do it.

BTW Homer: I did something like that whenever I was like 10, but never messed it up that badly. I was a stupid kid, and was messing around with my freinds we were taking turns walking off the diving board with our eyes closed. My freind walked off fine, then it was my turn. the diving board was slippery, and I slipped like over the side LOL...It wasn't all that high, but my reflexes kicked in pretty good, and I just grabbed the railing b4 I fell. It broke my foot though cuz I guess it popped out of place or something. Anyways, I kept walking on the cast, and all kinds of shit...Needless to say it took me ALL DAMN SUMMER (like the whole 2 and a half-3 months) to heal the damn thing cuz I was stupid.

Take the surgery and take the time off. You will still be in shape just not conditioned. In another 6 weeks after your time off you'll be back to normal. Don't be stupid.

Yea, well I'll do it and see how I am feeling from there...If I feel great, then I still won't push myself to hard...Kind of take it pretty lightly if I feel well enough.

It's hard for me to quit doing everything completely because exercising is sort of like my stress reliever, and without releasing all of that stress i'm a pretty mean bastard, but i'd make sure I wouldn't hurt anything. Like really I could probably do arms, and legs, etc...Just as long as I wouldn't use around my chest/ stomache area so much...

don't be stupid have it done, there's only so much abuse it can take before you're ****ed for life, not working out for a few weeks isn't going to kill you either! just get a good doctor, and good luck.
