What did you think looked kiddie and ended up being cool?

A perfect example for me would be Grand Theft Auto 3. I remember seeing the box cover and thinking it looked too cartoonish, or "for kids" because I thought the cartoony style of the cover art represented the look and feel of the game itself. Needless to say, it was WAY cooler than most people thought it was going to be. Other examples would be;

Animal Crossing - http://www.animal-crossing.com/ - suprisingly addictive, even if you're normally into war games n such
Munch?s Oddysee - http://www.oddworld.com/ow_frameset.html - great game, no matter what age or what type of gamer you are. Probably my favorite platformer ever.
I-Ninja - http://www.ininjagame.com/ - took a chance on this one and I'm so glad I did. Another great platformer with some of the most fun moves in a platformer.

Digimon world 1 & 2 for psx LOL...I never got to play 3, but that shit was pretty cool. 1 was great (more like an rpg)..The 2nd was decent.

I'm sure they're probably pretty decent games, but I can't stand the whole Digimon thing. At least with Animal Kingdom, they're not based on some dippy cartoon/toy series (no offense to any Digimon fans).

I-Ninja appeals to me because of the humorous cartoon violence, among other things (nice graphics, creativity, etc.) and the fact that the main character is a ninja.

I LOVE the Commercial for I-Ninja..."The last man standing is always the tallest" or something like that. Funny as hell!
I think Digimon is actually pretty neat. I've watched the cartoon with my nephew lots of times...The story isn't that great, BUT the monsters are nicely designed, and the whole idea of evolving into bigger and cooler monsters is nice. It was to kiddish for me though...Whenever I was a kid I enjoyed X-Men, and stuff like that.
Pokemon really sucks...Actually, most cartoons anymore suck. Only thing I can stand to watch is DBZ...For the same reason the characters are really neat, but the story lasts so damn long!!!
