Welcome Back –
03-20-2008,06:19 PM
Lets hope we can restore this site to at least some of it's former greatness. This has been one of my favorite places to mingle since September of last year. I definitely hope that people come back. Good job salvaging the earlier DB xiaNaix, glad it's not a total start over.

Restoring Old Pages using Google Cache
Restoring Old Pages using Google Cache –
03-22-2008,02:50 AM
If anyone needs to restore an old page that was lost during the database crash, it can be done. All you need to know is the exact name of the thread and search for it in Google, then click on the "Cached" link.
For example, I was able to restore all "Free VAST" pages 1 - 23 (Free Vast Continues) using Google's cache as follows:
"Free VAST - PSX-SCENE/WiiNewz Forums" - search with quotes to find page 1
"Free VAST - Page 2" - search with quotes to find page 2
"Free VAST - Page 3" - search with quotes to find page 3, etc...
If you find a page that wasn't at the end of the thread (ex: page 21 of 23), make sure you find a version of the page that doesn't end on page 21, search until you find a version that has more page links after the current page. This way you know all posts for the current page are available. For example, when I was searching for page 21 of the "Free VAST" thread, one cached page I found ended halfway through the page, while another version I found had all posts and continued on to page 22, etc.
NOTE: Sometimes it helps to include the site title when searching for a page to narrow down search results. Using the site title is primarly useful in finding the first page of a thread, as it doesn't have "Page 2" etc as part of the title. However, the site's title went through a few changes. So when including the title in your search, you may have to use a different title name to find the page.
Site Title Revisions:
1. PS2 Scene Forums
2. Scene Newz Network
3. PSX-SCENE/WiiNewz Forums
4. PSX/PS2/PS3/Wii Scene & Newz Forums
5. PSX/PS2/PS3 Scene Newz
Also, sometimes including the title prevents you from finding a page. For example, I was unable to find page 1 of the "unofficial LaunchELF" thread using all the site titles (example search: "unofficial LaunchELF - PSX-SCENE/WiiNewz Forums"). However, when searching for "unofficial LaunchELF" alone, I was able to find the page "unofficial LaunchELF - PSX-SCENE/WiiNewz Forums" (page 1 of the thread). For the record, I know page 1 of this thread was not lost, it's just an example.
Of course if you use an exact quote from a post, you can also find the page.
I don't know if anyone will actually use this info, but it's here in case it helps someone find what was lost after the site went down.
EDIT: Ok, looks like it's not possible to restore all pages, but it at least helped me restore some important previously lost posts.

Yeah I know, I already posted about that here (Free Vast Continues). I guess I should of posted that info here too. I'm assuming you're using the default or "PS2-SCENE" forum skin. You have to switch to the "PSX-SCENE/WIINEWZ" skin instead, by changing it in your User CP > Edit Options settings here (for those who don't already know).
