I turned on my computer this morning and when it got to windows Norton came up and said it found nine new virus files, then norton shut itself down. When I try to open norton again, it stays up for about 30 seconds then shuts off. It said it can't quarantine the files or delete them. The virus is a backdoor.optixpro.13. My firewall (zone alarm pro) keeps shutting down too. Anybody know what I can do? Any other virus software that would get rid of this for me?

if you have a real norton cd, it should be bootable. so bot rom it.

aside from that, norton is shitty and has been for years.

i would suggest trying to get a bootable cd and download current definitions to a disc or something..
otherwise, you could try safe mode or DOS mode..

Never had a problem with Norton in the 5 or 6 years I have used it. Just keep it updated and you will be fine.

if norton cant stop being infected from a trojan 8 months old, that's hardly a "plus" in nortons favor. then theres how bloated it is, how much of a resource hog it is, etc etc etc. norton is simply crap, there's much better products out there that properly get the job done.

ten bucks says this starts a flame war on norton vs everything else
<FreeFrag> The most secure computer in the world is one not connected to the internet.
<FreeFrag> Thats why I recommend Telstra ADSL.

I figured out that the problem wasn't with norton, it was me. Zone alarm pro asked if I would let msiexec.exe connect to the internet. Not thinking I clicked yes and that started the whole thing, at least that's what I read on another forum. I have been using norton corp. for quite a while now and have never had a problem until now.
