USB1 and USB2 in one PC...?

Okay so I just bought a USB2 card for my computer...(Yeah...MY pc IS that old) ...Well...the thing is that it's a combo card with firewire and Ethernet(again, my pc is old)....I got both ethernet and firewire to work but somehow USB2 won't work....I mean my pc have USB1 though....could that be the problems...?

Can a PC have both USB1 and 2 together....I mean if I have a USB2 pen drive in my USB1, it says that message about 'hi-speed on low hub....blah blah blah" but when I put it into my USB2, nothing happen....IF I leave the USB2 pen drive in my usb1 slot and restart my PC, I'd get a blue screen doing 'memory dump"

I'm not sure why....i have winXPpro and SP2 update...I also attach my USB device manager screen shot here which clearly shows that my PC have usb2 now....

any help would be great....thanks....

Yeah....you can have both USB1.1 and 2.0 in the same machine...are you sure there's not mem address issues? The other thing is....have you tried to put a USB 1.1 device in the the USB2.0 port to test it? That'll give you a clear indication whether it has a conflict or not.

I don't get any response from the usb2 port...that's the thing...I haven't test to see if it's memory address...how do you check that??...go into the computer SYSTEM>>Device Manager...??right??

agee: you MUST have sp1+ for USB2 to work properly (this is what I hear anyway, never had usb2 myself)

So you mean I might just have to UNINSTALL sp2 and put sp1 back on??....I mean I have heard of winXP needing atleast sp1 to work correctly with usb2 but i assume sp2 then would also work too....I don't really need usb2 anyway but since i paid for it, I like it to work...I mean I bought a graphic card a while ago and it seems to kept freezing my system...then I got MORROWIND and it needs 32-bit resolution so I plug that graphic card back in and amazing it work....I'm hoping that eventually someday, usb2 on my PC will just work too...I mean I email these dudes but the tech support was dumb as hell...asking me for all these nonsense....wasting my time....

Thanks for the tip anyway...I'll see If I can get sp1 back on...but 1st things 1st...GET norton GHOST and create an IMAGE file cause you never know when uninstalling something like that might crash your system....I hate reformatting and stuff like that....Later yall....peace-out

nono just atleast SP1, SP2 is fine, sorry I didn't read the end of your post where you said you had SP2, my bad lol, hmm I donno then, weird problem.

I guess it's just cheap old computer....It always give me problem anytime I stick in somehting....oh well....I guess i'll fix it whenever I really need to use it....

ther is no such thing as a cheap old computer. when they get "time challenged" you simply install linux onto them and use them as servers. then they become brand new

that reminds me...I tried linux but because I'm a total NEWBIE..I don't even know where to go after the liveCD boot up....I suppose to create some password but I couldn't type when the "new password" command appear...Oh yeah...this is Gentoo Linux....any suggestion??

I donno what Gentoo is, but I know Mandrake is good for newbs (I used it for a while) pretty darn easy to use for linux, but it is a resource hog so i wont make ur old pc blazing fast...

is gentoo just a linux CD that u boot with, or does it actually install to the hdd?
