Unhack PS3?

I realise this question has been asked before but there are some things I don't understand.

Most guides say to delete homebrew, format, yadda yadda yadda...then update to 3.55 OFW and THEN to 3.56.
Well 3.55 you can't download off the SONY website anymore and 3.72 is the latest OFW, so is there a way to get 3.55 or
is there another way to 'unhack' the ps3, and am i likely to brick my ps3 if I just format and update from CFW to OFW?

You can get 3.55 ofw from this sites download section.... and you should be able to update to the current fw right from 3.55.... as long as you format.... i would suggest formatting in your computer first and then in the ps3 it will think it's a new harddrive.....

He don't need format his HDD.
Just clean pushlists, delete homebrew and games and other data which he create.

This is completly absurdity. If he want format HDD, he shoud just launch PS3 in Recovery Mode and choose proper option...

This confuses me a little though, as Berion says, wouldn't it be fine to just fomat the hard drive in the PS3's recovery mode?

Woah, ok, I thought I understood it all until you said that.
Reflash? I'm not using anything like that...am i?

Firmware is writing to NAND flash (or NOR flash, depend on PS3 model), and always when You want i.e update, some part of files from PUP package are unpacking and writen into i.e NOR. Well, yes, reflashing isn't properly word for this beacuse not whole bone is flashing.

MD5 is most popular algo for checksums. Each file from which You generate a checksums have a unique checksum. People using checksums for checking file changes (i.e corruption, unauthorised changes etc.).

When You download OFW 3.55, check his MD5 to be sure that is real OFW 3.55, not an i.e bricking fw.

Yes, it should............but...........
I would still do a check on it.
You never know if something might have gotten a little "jacked up" during the download.

These systems are not cheap and I heavily believe in a little preventative checking just to make sure everything goes smoothly.
