TiVo OR ReplayTV?

I wanted to get a TiVo until i found out there was a monthly fee. So I now i'm thinkin about the ReplayTV, and I can get one cheap with lifetime activation from eBay. So should I get the TiVo or ReplayTV? And is there a way to get around the TiVo fee?

I think Replay TV is no longer going to be supported. Tivo has a lifetime activation thats costs like $250, but to help defray the cost a little you can just buy a cheaper Tivo that has a small hard drive and upgrade it.

When you say its no longer going to be supported do u mean it wont be able to donwload the guide and stuff?

or do u mean there not going to make anymore and there wont be tech support and stuff, because i know sonicblue doesnt own em anymore.

I think there just wont be anything like tech support. The recorder itself should still work.

Well in terms of functionality I think they're both the same. But seeing as how Tivo is the more common/well known of the two, I would imagine it's going to be the one that out lasts all the competition.

TiVo rocks.

Rumor has it that there are hacks that allow free program guide updates, but I have never seen it. Besides, they make a quality product, we have had lifetime service for a while now. Upgraded to 120GB HDD.

Yes there are hacks out there for SA tivos for lifetime subs.
