Has anyone seen this movie yet? I just watched it and it certainly had an impact on me. Especially having a kid makes you think about this shit.

It's an interesting debate as parents are ultimately responsible for what their kids eat, but it's hard when you are slammed with ads all day long... After this movie, Maccas here in Aus started their own ads trying to find holes in the movie.

What do you think about the movie and/or the fast food debate?

I don't really plan on seeing it. What's their point anyway? We all know already fast food isn't good for your health and if I want to watch some dude eat McDonald and gain weight, I will do it for free by visiting the nearest McDonald in my area. Those place are already full of fat people anyway.

Well, I love fast food, and it consists of about 80% of my diet. McDonalds, Quiznos, PandaExpress, I cant get enough of it. But I never think for one second that this is healthy for me. I just get angry over the idea that McDonalds is some how responsoble for my eating habits. I dont beleive Phillip Morris is at fault for smokers, and even that is a better arguement. Cause you must eat in order to live. If you go to McDonalds and buy a Quarter Pounder instead of eating a Salad at home, it is common sense that that isnt healthy. There is no way to plead ignorance. The problem with people today is no one is willing to take responsibility for their own choices and actions in life. No one forces you to go to McDonalds, they never claim to have food that is healthy to eat every day.

I saw a bumper sticker with this quote: "Blaming Guns for Columbine is like blaiming Spoons for Fat people"

I will continue to eat Fast Food, not because I think its good for me, but because it is fast, and because it is yummy. And I am not gonna blame McDonalds if I fall over dead from a heart attack.

That's a funny quote. And you make a great point. I think people should be informed of the concequences of their choices. As long as that's true of someone, then there is at least some validity to what they do. Blaming anyone but yourself is lame, and blaming yourself means you should get off of your ass and reform. But if there is no blame, like necrolop, then it's fine...

This all being said, I'm a vegan... so ultimately I'd like no one to eat at fast food joints...

I cant even fathom how you could survive without meat. And veganism is just crazy, do you not eat medicine in gelcaps? I can see shying away from some animal products for health reasons, or not eating pork cause of how they treat pigs, but humans are omnivores, its in our nature and blood to consume other creatures.

I don't take medicine anyways... like, I've not been on anti-biotics since I was very young... but yeah, unless maybe I'd die, and even then... honest answer...

"I can see shying away from some animal products for health reasons"

Try all animal products. Why would I want to drink something designed to nuture a 350-pound calf? Since when is that kind of fat or lactose what the human body needs? I doubt it... because most ethnic groups have a 80% or higher population inflicted with lactose intolerance... even white americans are at about 20%, which is probably because we've developed some type of immunity.

You said "humans are omnivores, its in our nature and blood to consume other creatures"... I don't agree:

We are not physically equipped to eat meat/animal products. Dairy/eggs are one thing, some people can take it, others can't. Whatever. But we have to LIGHT OUR MEAT ON FIRE to kill most of the bacterias/etc. that our bodies are not designed to handle. No other meat eater does this besides certain types of foxes/scavengers. Humans ate meat because for a time, we couldn't get adaquate fruits/veggies/etc. We have the mental capacity to think "hey, if I roast this in fire and kill what would otherwise kill me, I might be OK and be able to satisfy my hunger", so we ate meat for awhile. I would imagine we continued to eat in because of the taste or the ease of getting a lot of protein from one place.

And as far as not eating pork because of how pigs are treated, NO ANIMAL is treated well when being raised for meat. I don't mean the death of the animal itself... we all die and many animals kill for food, and I don't feed my dogs tofu... however, I recongize that humans DO NOT require meat and thus can alleaviate (spelling?) the suffering of factor farmed animals (I won't go into conditions here... watch "The Meatrix" or google factory farms...). Hell, milk and the veal industry are hand-in-hand. I can't allow myself to directly or indirectly contribute to that suffering.

Consider this: every other meat-eater on this planet would salivate at the thought or site or hunting down a (for instance) rabbit and ripping it apart (with it's claws and sharp teeth*, which humans don't have), then devouring it whole, raw, blood and all. Most humans generally don't jump at the opportunity to eat a rotting animal carcass... unlike meat-eaters... and meat-eaters could handle (hell, it's good for them) eating said things... humans couldn't. Humans who do (I haven't heard of many) are usually considered insane (sadistic, mentally handicapped) or revolting.

*Don't claim that humans have fangs... my ****ing pet dogs fangs make mine look like a joke, and I have nice, sharp teeth for a human. Human's teeth are for biting through fruit, not hide.

Blah blah blah... I'm not going to wrap this up... I've typed enough... (I'm eating a banana, so I thought I'd throw that in for good measure)

Look at our relitives, Chimps are omnivores. We have to cook our food because our immune system suck from thousands of years of evolution , we havnt not cooked out food for thousands of years. Maybe eating pigs and Cows is nto our normal meat, but we are definately omnivores. To totaly avoid meat is un healthy. Plus why would you want to miss out of soemthing so yummy.
