strange pc problem...

im about to install xp on my pc.
but when reading from cd it kind of misses files. it sess"press return to try again"
then after a fue tries it works. but after the first reboot in the installation process i get blue screen with strange messages.

I have tried following.

reformat drive
ram memmory check program. ok
hd checked ok with hardware test tool
formatdrive with tool that also deletes boot sector.
swapped cd unit
tried other coppies of xp discs

but no luck.
It seems like there is a loss of data when reading from cd.
i have also experiensed corupted installations of games erlier from cd when my OS were installed.
could it be a bad motherboard?

its a brand new computer setup by a good dealer here in sweden.
well, maybe not so good as i thought

Did you try replacing all of your IDE cables or atleast swapping them for known good cables?

Yeah, it sounds like some of the cables from the CD unit are either loose or defective. Try unplugging and re-plugging in all the cables from the CD unit to the HDD, that might work. Otherwise, try swapping out the CD unit - that's what sounds defective.

tried to swap ide cables.. no luck.
tried to swap cd unit.. no luck.....
this is geting frustrating.

I recently had a similar problem on a routine install, i got sick of mac OSX (cuz it was all messed up) so I tried to reformat with XP (i've installed xp like 4 diff times with no problems on that machine) and it kept saying it couldn't read certain files, etc so I'll tinker with it today and let you know.

Does it always screw up on the same files?

nope. randomly. sometimes just a fue, sometimes some files is inpossible to read

2GB ram
Antec black piano

a friend of mine told me he hade the same problem and he switched the RAM memmory. and that worked.

coud it be?
