I was on Radio Shack's website looking at soldering irons when i came across the following message on many of their soldering products:

California residents: WARNING: This product contains, or when used for soldering and similar applications produces, chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects (or other reproductive harm).

I was just wondering if there is actual truth to this, and why does it only pertain to California?! LOL

because california is the only state (as far as i know) that recognizes solder to cause cancer and have birth defects etc

It is true though lead can **** you up! :-0

One guy I know started a business modding PS2's and after a few weeks he needed glasses, it was probly a combo of the lead and the deep focus, but still...lead=bad....mmmmmmmmkaaaayy

Lets just say that hunching over peering at really small components while soldering and letting toxic fumes go into your eyes cant be good for you.

    Yes it can.

Well, if you use flux agents you should take even more care, as they are mainly composed by Fluorine based compounds...
    Nasty stuff
