I have 2 U160 SCSI drives and they are 10,000 RPM, one might even ben 15,000 RPM, and I was burning a DVD. Then the friggin OS starts a defrag! I though, oh crap, I have a coaster, but guess what, I was able to defrag, burn a DVD and had anti-virus running all at the same time! This is on a dual PIII system too. SCSI rocks, anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know jack.

alot of higher end mb have scsi built in but you can just buy the addon card to your older pc
are you looking to get scsi?
i have 2 adaptec 160 scsi cards they retail for $329 each but will take almost any offer
i also have 4x9gig hdd and 2x4 gig hdd

and scsi is weak compaired to fiber channel
a friend has a fiber channel drive it runs 15k rpm 1Gb/sec
not just the 160Mb or even the newest 320Mb scsi

Actually the board I run was from a server. Good thing about it is that it has an AGP slot, so I can run any vid card I want to. And yes, it has IDE onboard. SCSI and IDE 100 onboard.

I got it cheap, $67 from eBay. It's cheap because it only runs PIII 1Ghz CPUs. But it's a dual mobo with SCSI and it's fast.

IDE is way behind SCSI, that's why SCSI is expensive.

Yeah, fibre channel, the stuff of dream machines!

well sata is 150mbs so it is not that far behind scsi160
but the 9ms of sata compaired to 4ms of scsi seek times are a big difference and the rpms

    it depeneds
if you are talking about the scsi i have
the cards will ececpt upto scsi 160
the drive that i have are only scsi 80 maybe 160 but not sure

there are serveral versions of eide
    dma 33
    dma 66
    dma 100
    dma 133
    sata 150
if you have either of the first 2 then yes it will write faster to the harddrives as is
or you can go buy the scsi 160 drive and it will be much faster writing to the disk drives
the seek time on the 9 gigs are 7ms
my brand new 100gig dma100 hdd is 11ms
so yes it will read stuff faster thena normal eide system

Yeah, SCSI rocks because of low seek times, no main CPU error correction, and fast spindle speeds!!
