http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/sav/savold.htm
The government borrowed a total of $3.9 billion through the issue of Series A through D savings bonds. Treasury will still make good whenever they are presented for redemption at any financial institution in the U.S. that cashes savings bonds. These bonds are worth face value when cashed. Interest on bonds issued March 1935 through February 1941 is not taxable.
