    What does the virtual matrix do? does it mean i can set my movies to play in dts-es 6.1 and my receiver will simulate that?

    That's exactly what it means. For anything encoded in DTS 6.1, your receiver will split the "back center" channel into the two rear speakers, giving the effect that you have a speaker directly behind you.
