Sorry, got here too late to join the previous thread (sorry tieg--bad storms been knocking out our servers at work, been a bit busy). I can understand closing it because it was about to get a bit out of hand--as the posts usually do when it comes to personal opinions. But, I think we should try to keep some sort of thread like this going.

I don't mean to put anybody's work down, but I kind of have to agree with tieger a bit. The old site was simple and easy to use. I know a lot of time goes into putting these forums together, so I am not "whining". But you have to admit, this format is a bit awkward. While it may be a common format, it doesn't necessarily mean it is the best format.

There are a great deal of us who routinely hit a bunch of threads in one session. All the extra polish is tedious to sort through and wears heavily on the eyes. The former design allowed more posts to be viewed with less scrolling. That is my only true "gripe" about the design. This whole XP feel really eats up a lot of real estate. Smaller text, or smaller graphics around the posts--better yet, get rid of the thick gray borders all together. Just a few tweaks to the template maybe so it is easier to get more info at once. CTS is a really nasty condition and hard to avoid. All this extra scrolling is not good.

I think the main think to remember is that the sole purpose of the site is information. I think many (especially the older sceners) would agree the presentation should concentrate on getting as much of that information on the screen at once with easy reply controls. I think that is the main change everyone would like to see. The design doesn't need to be complicated--it would probably even be better to over-simplify it. I mean, really...I have a 10 X 7 resolution, and I have to scroll this page down to hit the submit button? All we're asking is could things be tightened up a bit?

My 2 cents.....take it or leave it....

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it! But, hell if you can tweak that bastard just a little bit more....hehehe.

My thoughts have nothing to do with RAISTLIN's but, well, wasn't the old site a bit faster ? It seems to me so... (when choosing a thread, while all those little smiles are loaded, hell it takes mins...) Ah, I wanted to edit my avatar, it says I don't have one at the moment. Thanks that was already known, but where (and how) could I edit it ? Other than that everything is fine, nice to be back again.

    regards, Stephen
