Hey all, I just won an RCA DivX player on ebay, and just found out it will only support the special DivX format movie discs...I was wondering if there was a way to burn these format discs with my own avi files? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated ASAP! Thanks!

Hmm, Just use the new DivX Codec with the MP3 Audio codec, it will work just about that way.

The RCA divx player is a DVD player with DivX capabilities, but unfortunately, it will only play certified divx discs (ones you buy)...can anyone help me with the format?

lol, dude, you actually bought one of those? man, i thought they were all in a landfill by now.

the divx that player plays, is not the same divx like the mpeg4 hack.

i hope you paid only a minimal amount for it, or you can still cancel the auction and not pay the seller or something.

It's better just to buy an Xbox and install that Multimedia dashboard, I might do that once the price goes down.

Oh MAN! Sorry Tkeely, but that's funny to me for some reason. I hope you didn't pay too much for that peice of junk.

As far as building your own....why bother? A few of the newer DVD players will actually play Divx (the codec) movies..or you can get the Xbox media center to do basically everything. Or...since you're on a PS2....there exists software that will let you stream the stuff over a broadband adapter from your PC.

I know that other alternatives are out there, but I've always been really heavy into homebrew hardware, and after doing some research, it would be infinitely cheaper to build my own.

    The setup:

    -generic 40 HD
    -Generic 12X DVD-ROM drive
-500Mhz PIII, or even possibly a high-end Celeron chip
    -128SD RAM
    -Win98 SE
-BASIC vid card with vid out
-Generic audio-out card (not going for anything fancy)
    -Voice-command software.
-Metal-case (can forge one out of sheet-metal in a few hours)
    -Fan

Come to think of it...I've already got the RAM, HD, Drive, Win98...I'm almost half-way there! I think I'll get to work on it tomorrow! ^_^

If anyone could help me out with some nice deals (fair-priced processor w/board, vid card w/vid out, etc etc), please pm me, or im me: paxwell777

    thanks!
