RAM memory question (PC) (noob)

so im going to put together a pc with some old parts,
on the mobo there is 3 RAM memory slots.
Is it ok to just insert the memory or is there something i need to know?

i got
1x samsung 256mb Sync 133MHz CL3 PC133U
1x samsung ???mb PC100-322-620 KMM366S823CTS-GL
1x komsa 256mb PC133 xx-2025123

the all fit into the slots.

well all your ram is goinbg to run at pc100 which is pretty slow. I guess all that ram will run single channel all right..,. try it out tell us what happens

but if i just put the 2x 256mb pc133 in, would that run faster?

Yep, then it'll run at PC133.

Also, be sure how much ram the motherboard can handle.

the manual i found

states that 256mb (64Mbit technology) or
512mb (128Mbit technology) SDRAM

Do i have 128mbit SDRAM?

I dont think they make 64mbit 5212 cards
it would be to big...I think the 64 referse to the size of the individual chips on the ram. Honestly man a good why to check it is get some benchmark software plug it in and try it out.

Definately go with the PC133 chips. Depending on the BIOS and CPU involved, you could really shoot yourself in the foot with a PC100 chip and wind up having to underclock a 133FSB based CPU to get a stable system. If the CPU builds it's clock off of a 100FSB, it won't matter. Either way, the memory will run faster with just the PC133's, more than enough to offset the performance gain you might expect by installing the extra 64MB in that PC100 card anyway. And if you want the extra memory, PC133 chips are dirt cheap online these days. (Note if you are not on a Linux or NT Kernel, you may have to do some special config to run over 512MB).

As an added benefit, many PC133 chips are quite stable at 143/150MHz (sometimes even 161!), while I've frequently had trouble getting a PC100 to run reliably past 120MHz. In other words, you have a better chance of notching up the FSB and overclocking the CPU just a touch to get a little more bang for the buck. That is, if you are into that scene.

jepp, i did anstall just the 2x 256mb pc133 and it runs great.
acording to the mobo manual thats the max ram for this old mobo

oh and just one more thing wile i have skilled people at hand...
on startup a ram memory test starts and keep counting like forever (2 min)

how do i get this to count faster or skip ramtest?
