CZroe, I would suggest you use the 4 wire plain mod that was ported to the newer PIC chip. Sure, it has no stealth which can be annoying for a few titles, but very few is the key. For the few games that have anti-mod protection, goto www.megagames.com and they should have "fixes" or "patches" whichever you want to call them, for every protected game there is for PS1. Thus, there is no need to have a stealth modchip. Sure it is nice (I have one in my PSOne) but unless you want to play an original disc that is anti-mod protected, there's no reason to bother with stealth. Just patch the games before burning. And besides that way you can save yourself from having to solder a couple of wires.
It would be nice if GaryOPA or someone else would add the stealth capability but you can live without it. If it matters that much to you, I believe you could wire a certain pin of the modchip through a switch acting as a disconnect allowing you to turn the modchip on and off, which would require you to have it on while booting but flip it off probably when you get to the black PS logo license screen. I do remember people doing this to avoid the anti-mod protections.
If you are modding PSOne systems (not Playstations model numbers between 1000 and 9000, but actual 100 series small white systems) I think you just have to solder three wires to the chip and a link wire.
I will spend more time on this, and please take a look at the restore of xiaNaix's old PS-ONE site at:
http://xiaNaix.net
Now that I am in a little more control here after lurking around in the back for years, I will make sure more info will be carried here if not at least for people like you, and archive history of the wonderful age of the beginning for alot of people on this world of modding, gaming, etc.
Alot of the first homebrew, emulators started because of the ps-one, and the easy way to test out your code by just burning a cd-r.
All tho, my history goes back long before that, when I had to test code by programming pal's, eeprom's, and waiting for the failed attempts at codes to erase under the uv light.
When I finish getting this site up and running correctly, I do plan on finishing porting over the under versions of the PSX (ps-one) modchips out there, and release all the various codes for everyone, it is not like I don't care it is just the following facts:
1: We are talking over 10 years ago, so this project is not at the top.
2: I know, I got alot of other work on my plate but time heals all wounds.
3: It is long story, but I had alot of my stuff removed from me by people with powers I could not stop, but that is why I spent $12,000 on lawyers so far.
4: Rebuilding things now is not easy, I working on just what is now in my brain.
I know I bumping an old thread, but I was testing out the "search" forums of the forums and I just had too reply to this thread since my name was in it, amazing how you see things now that I never saw before because you are more into a site, instead of just daily lurking around in the dark corners of it.
lol! uhhh gary, you did notice that last post before yours was back in 2008, right?![]()
bleh. can't catch it all.
I need some help. My old scph 1001 console just broke down on me. I'm looking at getting a psone from ebay, but want to use my old 4 wire mod chip. Its very old and probably doesn't have stealth, but Im not sure. I don't care if I can't run some backups without a patch, but don't know if/how i can install this chip in a new psone. anyone still around that can help?
some chips work only on the fat ps1's. others only ont he psone's. damn few actualy work on both. I would suggest buying a scph-7501 as they are cheap and plentyful and your chip should work on it.
Are you positive about that one? I got the impression that the old 4 wire modchips work fine on the psone from here: http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/ps1.htm AND http://www.mod-chip.bz/Playstation/installe.html
If you scroll down to the Installation Pictures' on the 2nd website, it lists the 'Classic' mod chip working on the psone. I talked to a guy from over there who said the instructions are the same as cyber-mags.
If you look over in the PS-One forum here on this wonderful site.
I posted my port of the code of the old 4-wire chips over to the 12F629,
and also posted the old install pictures, which if you follow them you should
be able to use your old chip on any of the newer models of PS-One.
