OEM DVR-103 Firmware upgrade

I have my Pioneer 103, its actually I believe a compaq OEM one, I got it on ebay a very long time ago. It has v1.55 firmware on it, and Ive been trying to upgrade it. I cant get it to work, it says it doesnt have the correct kernal and upgrade fails. What should I do, because Compaq no longer exists.

Compaq merged with HP, so HP should be able to give you support for it...

Im aware, but theres still nothing. Ive tried all of the normal flashes for it, and even hex edited it to get it to work, but to no avail. the force command in dos prompt doesnt help. What to do.

Better yet. I installed the Compaq OEM v1.9 firmware, but now it shows up as Firmware version 0000 Max speed 0x. SO ummm ya. wonderful.

Be sure your drive is on the secondary IDE BUS as the master and that util will convert your OEM drive into accepting retail and hacked firmwares. It worked on my 104 when the company that sold it to me gave me no support whatsoever.
