need help with internet/router slow down issues –
my problem is complicated and im not sure what the problem is... i have a very fast cable internet connection, but their is always a problem. i have a wireless router installed but i quit using wireless because it pissed me off to no end, and i just use the hard-wired part of my netgear wireless g router (and turned off wireless ability in the 192.168.0.1 page) but here is my prob:
i have my pc connected to the router and most of the time i am downloading at about 40-70k/sec constantly. my moms internet and all other comps connected to the router will often move at such a slow pace that it actually looks like dial up, and some times pages dont even load. i constantly reset my cable modem, reset my router, and it usualy helps a little bit but this has become a major problem because my mom wants to take the cable modem back to her office which meens i would be cut off. i am thinking of buying a 16 port namebrand switch because a friend of mine told me a switch would work better than a router, and id like to plug in a crap load of comps. any advice? my internet should be fast as hell, any way to test this? i get
Max Ds Rate = 7600000
Max Us Rate = 800000
according to the config file my modem grabs
oh yeah, recently my config file name has changed from default3.cm to "default3.cm-MOTO" how creepy is that?
i have a modified surfboard sb4100 and a toshiba pcx modem that was given to me by the isp. i DON'T uncap, i have the gold account with my isp (RCN) and they recnetly upgraded my account to the "mach 7" as they call it.
but getting back on topic, i need this problem fixed or i will have to pay for my own seperate modem... is this a normal issue? i thought that it should work flawlessly for most people with this setup
