i would reccomend xvid.. it's developed more activly and in alot of cases yields better results than divx. www.xvid.org for source/cvs.. if you are on windows and want precompiled binaries just google..

you can then use virtual dub(google) to compress /manipulate your video.

Agreed - xvid will yield better overall results for quality to size ratios than divx. If you're actively converting files to .avi, then I would recommend xvid.

he means a program he can convert from dvd files into divx

You should try AutoGK, produces great results, is free and very easy to use
(however you must use DVDecrypter to decrypt the dvd onto your HDD first)

    Get it HERE

the easiest way is to put ps2reality media player on the root of your CD, the point your SYSTEM.CNF to cdrom0:\PS2MEDIA.ELF;1

then create a file called "autops2.txt" with the contents of

    PATH\TO\MOVIE.AVI

then burn with your movie.. then you can just throw the disc straight in, boot your ps2 in ps2 mode and it will automatically play the movie.

oh, make sure you burn with CDGEN_PS2 because the ps2's bios will be reading the file with it's own cdvd driver, and won't use the homebrew cdvd.irx (so it will only read iso level1 8.3 filenames)
