Need ADSL modem reccomendation –
This is probably not possible--having a h3ll of a time trying to find any details on this in any white papers for DSL modems.
I have a co-worker who is set up to work at home. For 2 yrs. she was on cable modem, and recently cut it off because of crappy tech support and went to DSL with Bellsouth Fast Access. The Westell modem they gave her won't retain it's configuration settings if it looses power. No details were given, but this seems to happen enough to present a problem--just as she gets the line balanced and tweaked out, something happens and it starts relearning all over again. This was a non-issue with cable, since those modems (usually) have non-volatile memory to store all the settings. She wants to go with the static IP option again to make the home networking and remote access work smoothly, but if the "@#$@#! thing keeps forgetting my MAC and $hit, WTF am I supposed to do when I'm on the road and need to share files?"--gotta love a broad who can curse like a sailor..hehe.
Anyway, anyone out there who has a DSL modem that has non-volatile memory to store the configuration? Model number isn't that important, but helpful. Just trying to at least narrow down a brand name so we can contact them to get details and start looking for a source to buy them.
If it ain't broke don't try to fix it! But, hell if you can tweak that bastard just a little bit more....hehehe.
