I think I had this conversation before but I am really not sure but what internet service do you guys use?
I have ATT not really sure what it is but it says it high speed internet pshh yeah right
My Download Speed 5.27mbps Upload Speed 0.43MBps (WTF is my upload speed normal?)

On the global average it said that my internet was utter trash :/ (Global Average 10.39mbps) (My average 5.27mbps)

For example torrents if its really good 750Mbps
Rapidshare, (Stuff like those) 175-250Mbps (I am not sure but nothing over 300
    Other 300-500Mpbs

What internet provider can I go to? I think the last time I talked about this I think users was saying that they can download 20gb in like an hour and I'm like WTF LOL!

My average download (if it isnt a really good torrent) is at-least 1gb an hour (If I am lucky) since most stuff comes from things like Rapidshare (you know what I am talking about)

Right now my laptop is showing 65Mbps (is that good?) I feel it's 2005 all over again with dirt slow internet connections. I am under the impression that stuff like rapidshare and etc..etc.. KILLS MY DOWNLOAD SPEED but for some downloads they be around 400-500mbs idk

All I am asking for is a decent download speed of 400-500mbs (is that too much to ask for without breaking the bank LOL) If I do have to break the bank can you recommend me what provider do you use if you are in the US and how much do you pay a month for your internet bill.

Internet Speed Test 10 mbps - YouTube (whoever this guy is make me feel like trash )

well first off let me say I think your quite confused about speeds and what not

at&t is a copper DSL service

the max they can offer you is 50mbit over VDSL and thats only if your close to there node...

    most people have 5-25mb packages

and when i say mb i mean mega bit not mega byte

im guessing you probably just have a basic ADSL modem which provides about 5-7mbit

meaning when you download you would see typically 600-800kbytes per second

    which is normal

so when you run your speed test and get 5mb for download that is pretty standard

I imagine your upload is either 384kbit or 640kbit

so the upload reading your getting is fairly close too

for the package you have you are getting what you should be by the sounds of things

stuff like torrenting and what not if not configured properly can destroy your connection

when you download from a website normally (like http) you are downloading from one computer

meaning you are making 1 session through your NAT (router/gateway)

when you torrent you can make thousands of connections at once

DSL is usually limited to 1024 inbound sessions and 512 outbound

so if you are using all your sessions there is no room for anything else

what I would do is call your service provider, they can run a test to see if your signal from them is proper and not erroring out

if you are using a 2wire gateway you can check yourself in the control panel (CV's (also known as CRCs) are bad, FEC's are ok if there isnt millions)

they can also tell you what your getting for what your paying for

other aspects can be from your own hardware (say if your using a third party router) and its a POS or the firewall isnt config properly

or if you are spliting the connection with multiple devices

if there is no QOS any 1 of those devices can rob all your bandwidth

another thing is when your laptop (which is on wifi) is saying 65mbps... thats the link between you and your wireless router, not your overall speed.

wireless if it is not proper can also slow you down... have you tested with a wired connection straight to the modem?

    good luck to you.

I'm confused on your math. Do you mean MB/S (Megabytes per second) or KB/S (Kilobytes per second). If you are talking in MB/S then those kind of speeds are too high for most if not all hard drives to handle

good response above. You should also check the max number of half open connections and set up port forwarding on your router to help you with your torrent speeds/connections

lol I am really confused also haha but I found something

I have ATT DSL (best one they have) they have up to 6.0Mbps
Now I look at comcast they offer 10-15 and etc..etc.. so is this a simple provider switch?

I honestly dont know the best my laptop ever downloaded was atleast 700kbs but I am thinking things like rapidshare is slowing me down anyway to bypass the limitations?

The file host speeds for free users sucks. Since it's obvious that you know where to find things (no judgement - just saying ) I would suggest that you find a list of direct PSN links and download 10-20 from that list using a program like GetRight, Download Accelerator Plus, DownThemAll......etc, etc. You don't need to actually download the whole files, but it'll give you what you're actual max download speed is since they're web based links and you can connect multiple times to the same file to boost speeds.

Ask ATT if you can upgrade to U-Verse internet. I upgraded about a month ago and now I get 11.5 download and 1.5 upload with their lowest package. You would also technically be a new customer so they should give you a big discount for a year.

very good. Even better with a proxy list. If you're a free user for rapidshare and other file hosts you can bypass the 1 file at a time limit
