OMG OMG OMG!!! MORTAL KOMBAT DEMO!! AHHHHH THIS IS THE GREATEST **** EVER.....ommmggggggg....i feel like a ******ed 13 yr old girl who is getting to meet miley cyrus...AHHHHHH....ok im just shut my gob now and give u the news:-

Sony's Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared some hands-on details about the new Mortal Kombat PS3 demo 3D that hits the US PSN next Tuesday and EU PlayStation Network next Wednesday.

To quote: I have played the Mortal Kombat PSN demo in 3D, and it is good. Comprised of four characters and two stages, the demo is a meaty preview of what to expect when the full game hits PS3 on April 19th (April 21st in the EU).

PlayStation Plus subscribers are getting early access this coming Tuesday, March 8th (March 9th in the EU) and it’ll be delivered directly to your PS3 as long as you enable Automatic Downloads in your XMB settings. All other PSN users will be able to download the demo on Tuesday, March 15th.

The demo comes with four playable fighters: Johnny Cage, Mileena, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero. Fan-favorite Scorpion is nastier than ever, packing his trademark throwing spear (“Get over here!”) and a wicked new sword, while rival ninja Sub-Zero forges weapons from ice and shatters internal organs with a touch.

Hollywood prima donna Johnny Cage hits below the belt, and sai-wielding mutant assassin Mileena makes no effort to hide her gleaming five-inch fangs. You’ll also get two environments: The Living Forest and The Pit, complete with its gruesome stage fatality.

Mortal Kombat’s stereoscopic 3D viewing mode is exclusive to the PS3, and I was lucky enough to try it on a massive 60’’ 3D Sony Bravia. Stereoscopic 3D lends an impressive sense of grandeur and scope — the environments seem to stretch on into infinity but don’t distract from the fighting.

“We didn’t want 3D to change the basic mechanics or complicate things needlessly,” Mortal Kombat creative director and series co-creator Ed Boon told me.

“Our 3D implementation makes the characters pop from the background a little more, and helps you focus on them.” By rendering the fighters in 2D for its stereoscopic 3D mode, Mortal Kombat’s action remains visible even if you’re not wearing 3D glasses.

This is a handy detail if you’re playing with a group on a 3D TV and find yourself short of 3D glasses — everyone will be able to play and watch whether they wear 3D glasses or not. If you’re not wearing 3D glasses, the 3D backgrounds will look a bit blurry but the characters will appear crisp and clean.

Gameplay-wise, the Mortal Kombat demo is loaded with special attacks, combos, juggles, and ultra-powerful X-ray attacks that will leave your opponents reeling (and your stomach heaving). The action is fast and satisfying, with a 2D, side-scrolling feel that’s much closer in spirit to MKII or MK3.

A standout example lies in the glorious return of the turn-around kick, which is a powerful juggle combo starter where you jump over an opponent and kick after you clear his shoulder. Judging by my experiences with the demo, turn-around kicks — a staple of the classic games but downplayed in later entries — are back in full force in the new Mortal Kombat.

According to Boon, this is by design. “We know turn-around kicks are an essential ingredient this time,” Boon told me. With a little practice, I was able to easily perform my signature Scorpion combo from Mortal Kombat II: Turn-around jump kick, teleport punch, spear throw followed by an uppercut or combo for a 25-30% damage combo. Not bad, but I’m sure some of you can do much better!

The Mortal Kombat demo supports two modes: One-on-one Versus battles (the final game supports two-on-two tag battles as well), and a short single-player Ladder mode. Protip: Completing that Ladder mode in the PSN demo unlocks a jaw-dropping video montage of the final game, complete with glimpses of new fatalities, returning characters, and impressive new stages. I won’t spill any secrets, but consider that video to be required viewing.

Oh, and one more thing: The “Toasty” guy is back. I’ve seen him!

    Cool news!
How many years has MK been out now?

I remember playing it but don't remember if it was on coin operated machines or just pc (at the time).
I have it on pc emulator but haven't played in years!

Those are some SWEEEET looking screenshots!
I would much rather go to my grave not needing my gun, than go there wishing I had it.

lol dude...mk has been coming out since the beginning of MANKIND!!!! There are so many MK games on almost every console to date including the portable consoles. The last MK game was MK vs. DC on the ps3 and xbox 360 and that was HORRIBLE..just HORRIBLE. Dont know why the hell they decided to do that, because of DC all the blood and gore was removed from the game. Felt like i was playing tekken, it was a huge disaster. So now they are rectifying their mistake and they are doing it pretty well !!!! AHHH I CANT WAIT!!! AHHHHHHHHH...DAMN MY EXAMS!!!!!

I'm officially older than dirt now!

I very much remember buying slices of pizza at a pizza shop with my best friend. We would eat our slices and then go over to the Asteroids video game and see who could get the highest score. We were in our teens and it had just come out!

The first video game I ever played was PONG. Again, we got it when it first came out!

Did a history search on MK and found that it was introduced in '92.
Probably why I couldn't remember it being on arcade machines. My attention was on getting married at that time.
I do recall playing it a bit in an arcade. Found it years later for the emulator.

And yes, I do know newer versions have come out. I am still a little old school on some video games though.

BTW, my first computer was a TI99-4A. Used a cassette recorder as the "hard drive".
My father bought one for me when they first came out. One more time, I was a teenager at the time!

I donated that thing to a local computer museum about 15 years ago and it was still in working order when I gave it to them.

Damn, sorry to go off topic. Just dredging up old memories.

nah its fine, its not always fun to talk abt TOPICS..be free, talk abt anything you want. BUT NEVER INSULT MK...for everytime someone insults MK..i shall KILL THEM!! anyway..the first game i ever saw a game was when i was a toddler, pacman..den the first time game i ever played was super mario bros. and that stupid, funny, colorful plumber made a chasm in my heart...which only could be filled with outstanding games like mario. Till now, barely 1-2% is filled up.

IIRC the Mario Brothers games were an offspring of Donkey Kong.
God only knows how many quarters I fed into the DK machines in my youth (also found on a emulator on my pc ).

Yeah! thats right, Donkey Kong was the first game ever to show MArio, but his name was JUMPMAN then, eventually he developed into one the biggest characters in the gaming industry. Lol who would have known out of blood thirsty god killers(kratos), Fast paced gun slingers(dante), Metal suited war heroes(master chief), Old Stealth masters(snake) and many more a plumber would b on top? LOL :P

I'm going to insult and trash Mortal Kombat from MK4 all the way up to MK vs DC (even though I didn't play that one). They all sucked! The mechanics and properties of the game changed.

Even some of the series before sucked. AI was predictable yet, allowed things normal players couldn't do. Ex. MK 2...Quick standing throw after being swept or continue to walk forward thru a sweep and throw.

Then comes memorizing different sets of fatalities for ever different revision of the game....that got real old, real fast!

Maybe with this "new" game it's going to really be worth it since they're going back to 2D. The movement still looks stiff and unfluid though, like all the games before it.
