I have a 20 gig hdd with partitions c:(5 gb) and d:(15 gb).They are both FAT32.Win98SE is on c.Can I install Linux Mandrake on d:(FAT32) without losing data on it,and if I can,will I be able to see and use data on c: with linux and data on d: with windows?

I dont think you can install Mandrake on it, but I think you can install Dragon Linux or WinLinux.
You can install it onto a regular linux partition tho, and there are drivers you can get that will let you read the partition in windows. Look around for the drivers first tho, in case there are issues with using them on your pc

yes, you can, using partition magic to first convert it, though i think you should back the stuff up because you have to mount your partitions, and split it as you will also need Swap memory..
...but you are one sick person to think that (in my opinion) because (i'm anti-microsoft) it would be sick to have both Windows AND Linux on one PC! i mean, Linux Is More Stable, Can Be Faster, And Has Wine (Software To Run Windows EXE) So Why Would You Need Windows?

but i suggest NOT installing mandrake, with me it was VERY unstable, and slow, and it's VERY EASY to install (which i think could be for beginners), so i'd go for SuSe or Slackware Or Such If You Want A REAL Linux Experience...
dual boot is so old school. Check out vmware (worksation version). You can run linux inside of windows. However, if you want to use windows as the host machine, you will need at least windows 2000
definately get Debian, that's my fav. As for dual boot. I suggest booting Linux on its native partition format otherwise you run into more problems, just as Windows XP doesn't like FAT32 as well as NTFS in all truth.
Red hat Linux 9.0 might be a good linux os for ya.

My dad uses redhat linux. I'll tell him too get slackware. I think he is too used to redhat.
