Well, to be honest, only Sony fault which I see is not implementing any S.M.A.R.T checking (but none of the console company did this yet). You have jailbroken PS3, why did You not making backups of all important data (saves, saves with CP, trophies, settings, activation data etc.)? This always ending like this, and it's not related only for PS3 but for anything in IT world.
The reason they put Bad software and hardware in their systems is because they 100% know one day that your system is gonna break and thats what they want, they do it because they want more money, because people send their broken consoles to them, that they purposely put terrible hardware in to fix, and when you send it back they just take out the broken old pieces and put brand new pieces of shit in, knowing that it will break later on in the future. They dont care at all about their customers, all they want is the $$. One of my old phat ps3's broke and we sent it back to sony, and later on it broke again, so I just put a 250 GB HDD (THAT WASNT FROM SONY) in and my ps3 hasnt broke since... You guys know what im getting to here, they absolutely dont care..
