Just bought a PS3... question on firmware

Hi all,

I'm new and would like to possibly start trying to develop for the PS3. I had just recently bought a PS3 off ebay, this being the exact one:

My question is if everything works out, should I go on CFW 3.41 or update it to the last CFW which is 3.55 as of now? This will be my first PS3 by the way, so I just would like to know which is better for development. Thanks

I usually see people using 3.55 Kmeaw or 3.55.1 Rebug now in days alot more than the usb dongle on 3.41. But hey welcome to the scene!

If you are asking for suggestion...then i would suggest you to go for 3.55 Kmeaw because i think this is the best firmware...

He's going for development so hey, maybe you should try rebug since it allows you full control (almost) over your ps3 and you'll also be able to develop debug apps

Thanks for the warm welcome . So in terms of what everybody is saying, I would guess 3.55 is the best, and it doesn't really matter if one uses either PSL1GHT or Sony's official SDK, at least to my logic then. Correct me if I'm wrong as I've never owned a PS3 .

Now, ethical ricado, to answer your question if you're going for development, and would like more possible elements for developing, then rebug would be better, quoting Hkas on "you'll also be able to develop debug apps". Of course, that's reading from Hkas' quote through my logic.

And it seems to me that most of the new stuff coming out have somthing to do with rebug

Yeah, I think it would be better if you used PSL1GHT as it was developed for homebrew developement and gets updates... There is also a prebuilt PSL1GHTv2 VM at the following link if you're interested

nopes, it may..or may not happen. When i switched to rebug, none of the news games like MAN VS WILD and SHIFT 2 worked. I switched back to kmeaw and they worked! weird console...ps3
