That answer your questions? If you're gonna get an MP3 player, go all the way. Plus it works on Mac and Windows (which is cool, cuz you should get a Mac while you're at it, they're so much better)

I'd say iPod but the fact that they're shiny and easy as hell to recognize is just begging you to get mugged (happened last friday :@)

the Creative sounds better and is cheaper - the pod has design coming out of the wazoo and it's soooo easy to use it's not funny.

Keep your options open. There is also the iRiver iHP140 and the Rio Karma. The iHP is *hopefully* going to replace my lost iPod.

    MUGGED!
    that sucks m8

well the reason i was looking at the NOMAD too is because im going to be backpacking so im not going to be around a computer. so i will not be able to recharge it that often, plus be able to load the software on to a pc

and the NOMAD battery life (im told) is much better then the ipod
plus you can change its battery's

but the ipod does have a AA battery back
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...More=T6714LL/A

but who the hell wants to carry around that, it takes away the great size of the ipod. plus the battery's would be crap to carry around to

i know i know, your all right, the ipod would be TITS! but there are something's i need to think about before i buy.

Nomad is excellent for battery life - VERY good for battery life. The iRiver IHP140 is the only one that matches the battery life and also looks much cooler . I also like it for the simple fact that there is no software involved - just simple drag n drop

You know, I was in the market for an mp3 player a while back but I decided to put that purchase off and get a dvd writer(NEC ND-2500a) instead.

Anyway, here's my opinion(based on Amazon reviews, online reviews etc.)

The iPod looks great. It's got on the fly playlists. It's easy to navigate. However it's usually not very compatible with Windows(some functions like the calendar etc. won't work). You have to use iTunes or Musicmatch to upload music. You can't transfer music from the iPod to the PC. It's pretty expensive too. Sucky battery life too. Oh and it doesn't play WMAs so if you have lots of those, get ready to convert them.

The Creative looks alright, but it's big and heavy. You get more bang for buck since the 40gb is about the same price as the 10 or 20 gb iPod(from memory.. I'm not sure, but the Creative has the lowest cost per GB among all the mp3 players). Sound quality is supposedly the best. Battery life is 14 hrs I believe, and the battery is user replaceable. Navigation is supposedly not too intuitive. Creative software is needed to upload mp3s and it's not very user friendly as I have heard. An alternative is Notmad Explorer which costs $25 I believe and is much better.

The iRiver(what I wanted) is around the same retail price as the iPod. It's a bit bigger, almost completely black but is way more feature packed. It has an FM tuner, an LCD remote, great sound quality(just a bit worse or equal to the Zen I believe) and the best part is definitely the plug and play. You just hook it up to your PC and it shows up as a hard drive in explorer. Its battery life is around 16 hours. It plays OGG format. It has upgradeable firmware. The main problem is that the shuffle function doesn't really work, there is no gapless playback(horrible for Pink Floyd I guess), there is a little problem with interference in the remote and there is no on the fly playlist. Also if you've got actual licensed music bought from napster etc., you'll need to work a little magic to get the file onto your player since it won't be recognized.

I personally decided to wait not only because I wanted a dvd writer but also because all of the mp3 players had their flaws(and they weren't very minor ones). I'll wait till prices go down and the technology to be better before finally settling on one.

P.S. I've heard good things about the Rio Karma too.
