    ..:: Dreamcast 2 - Would you buy One? ::..

I was reading the following article from GamesRadar on Yuji Naka (original Sonic Creator) and he's been quoted as saying that he would really like to work on Dreamcast 2.

I myself was a Sega man before I was a Sony man, and would personally love to see the return of Sega to the console hardware market as they always made solid hardware and had some very innovative ideas.

    Quote Originally Posted by GamesRadar

“I do miss those old days when I was heavily involved in hardware making at Sega. I was involved in most of the consoles and controllers that Sega came up with,” said Naka after promoting his latest title, Ivy the Kiwi.

It seems that Naka pictures himself in the role of an advisor, saying “If I have the opportunity in the future I want to be involved again with hardware making. It would be ideal if I could become some sort of advisor working with the platform makers in the future.”

“If ‘Ivy the Kiwi?’ does well in Europe then maybe I can make Dreamcast 2,’ joked Naka. But even if he’s joking a little, it still seems clear that Naka still really, really, really wants to work on the Dreamcast 2. He continues, hammering the point home again: “Of course Dreamcast was my baby back at Sega and I want to carry on making good games for the Eurpean market and one day I’m hoping it gives me the opportunity to work on Dreamcast 2.”
Bear in mind this is the man partially responsible for the demise of the Saturn, at least in my opinion anyway as he wouldn't let the Sonic team at the time to utilise his Nights Into Dreams engine for Sonic X-treme ultimately resulting in the cancellation of the title altogether. A game which could have helped prolong it's lifespan dramatically...

Just wondering would people here think about buying a new Sega console or has the world moved on?

Yes, I would absolutely buy any new sega console on launch day without hesitation. I still play my original launch DC regularly and consider it one of the most underappreciated consoles ever.

Sadly I don't beleive it will ever happen though, sega simply don't have the money to put into r&d anymore nor do they have the quality first party sortware devs they had a decade ago.

I think they're in better financial shape today than you'd believe. They have been a succesfull 3rd party developer on various platforms, not sure if they've been involved in any minor hardware endevours but I certainly think they're in better shape and maybe in a position to think about producing a machine. Though there would be little to no room for screw ups.

I know what you mean about unappreciated as well, I had 2 dreamcasts which I used to use for homebrew and of course games. I didn't like the pad much but the machine purred like a kitten for as long as I owned them (worked perfect).

The Japanease model was tricky as it would scratch the shit out of discs if you attempted to remove them from the console before they'd stopped spinning. This was remmedied by a disc breaking system and soft pads on the casing in the EU version.

I'd buy one for sure. I was a big Dreamcast fan. Can't believe how that console went south. On the ps2 launch day I remember goin to the game store right past the line of would be ps2 owners to pick up Quake 3 for DC (which also launched that day). Security stopped me at the door and said "Don't even think about asking for a ps2". I laughed and kept walking. Ran home and jumped on the Q3 servers. A few days later when I actually got the ps2, I wasnt impressed at all. How could the ps2 outlive the Dreamcast? It just doesnt make sense...lol

If the Dreamcast 2 has great games that fit into the game genres I like, yes.

The price has to be right though.

    Yes I would buy a Dreamcast 2.

Never owned a Sega console or a Sega game, hell I've hardly played any Sega games, and the ones I have, not deeply. But the sense of nostalgia of childhood (I had a friend who was a Sega fanboy and of course I used to read about Dreamcast in magazines) would be nice and also the having a 4th console in the battle would be amazing. Furthermore the nostalgia actual DC owners have for the thing makes me want to join in the fun too (this is the same reason that Duke Nukem Forever interests me, despite the fact I don't even like FPS games! I remember playing a demo with Duke Nukem on it back in the day though =P).

    I'd definitely buy a Dreamcast 2.

I still have the original one setup. Admittely there's only 2 games I play on it regularly (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver & Soul Calibur), but I still enjoy it.
