Spending an extra 400 for (what looks like) an extra .26 GHz sounds like quite a bit.
The Qpi is quite a bit better on the 990, but still..........just seems like a large chunk of change for minimal gains that (as Kold2012 stated) you really aren't going to notice.

I spent $3,500 on the last computer I built about 6 years ago (top of the line, newest technology components). I just replaced it with a store bought "box" that was much faster and more up to date with technology. That one cost me $449.99.

That really is something to consider. You can buy the latest and greatest and "pay through the nose" for something that will be 1/2 the price in less than a year.............or you can take a step or two back in technology and get something that is more than adequate and costs almost 1/2 the price right now.
I would much rather go to my grave not needing my gun, than go there wishing I had it.

Similar quandry i had a while back.

in the end i went with a 920 and oc it to 4ghz wil do everything i could want for the near future, and when it dont ill do the same again,

i too dont see the point in paying through the nose just to say i have a X,
