I met Hideo Kojima –
12-01-2004,01:07 PM
The signing was scheduled at 11 to noon yesterday. I arrived at the mall around 915 thinking I'd be early. I was early, but about 80 people were earlier than I was. I brought my Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3 manuals for signing.
Around 10:50, the staff of Planet X came out saying that they will only allow two items to be signed. I gave up on having my Part 1 signed. 30 minutes into the signing and I have yet to see Hideo. Another staff came out saying that because of the number of people that turned out, they will now only allow one item to be signed. Shit... there goes my Part 2. At least I can get Part 3 signed, which I bought the night before, by the way, just so it can get signed.
When there were about 10-15 people ahead of me, another staffer came out. Bad news. This time, not only will one item be signed, it will either be your item or the limited edition poster. And get this... YOU WILL NOT GET A POSTER IF YOU DON'T ELECT TO HAVE THE POSTER SIGNED. BITCH!
So since I have the option of having the poster as a decoration in a gameroom in the future, instead of my manual sitting inside its case unnoticed, I opted for the poster.
Sigh...
Anyway, the experience in general was disappointing. But Hideo and Yoji (character designer) were pretty cool, even though all they did was sign and smile. I mean, these are one of the top honchos in gaming. They do not need appearances like these to seel Metal Gear games.
Now hopefully I'll get to meet Shigeru Miyamoto next.

Did you (or anyone) get to ask them questions? Also, did you take any pics?

Unfortunately I was not able to talk to either of them. The security was pushing the line like crazy. It was already 45 minutes into the signing by the time I got in front, and there were still about 150 or so people behind me.
I'll take pics of the poster when I get home tonite and post it here. I have some camera phone shots because, stupid me, I left my digital camera at home. I was too focused on bringing my Metal Gear games which never got signed in the first place.
Here are the camera phone shots. Don't expect high quality. Hideo is the one in the dark suit with a red shirt.

MGS3 has to be the best action game of the year.

Yeah, it's a shame that it's been overshadowed by several other games.

bah....doesn't matter. It's always a niche market...I love in the monkey games, how it makes references to Gabe and Sam
