I got a theatre
it's been a while since I posted here but there's still people at these forums that I consider friends so I decided to post my news here.
My family and I bought a theatre a couple weeks ago. it's in Texas so it looks like I'm going to be moving so we can fix up and work in it.
it's actully going to be a movie theatre with an arcade and a video game store (the game store will be in a small building next door)
The place needs, a lot of work and I'll be documenting it the whole way through by taking a crap load of pictures. we've gone up there for about a week so far from California but don't plan on going back for another two to seven months, so we can save up some money.
I put together a website with a lot of pictures of the building, you'll see it needs a lot of work but we're up to the challenge.
visit our website and let me know what you think

That rocks! The place looks like it's in really bad shape but, still, I'd kill to own a movie theater. What sort of stuff do you plan on running there?
-
at first we're thinking we'll be a second run theatre but we're not quite sure yet. we have some time to think about it though, it will probably be close to 2 years until the theatre is open. we're hoping, however, to have the arcade and video game store running in the next 7 months or so.

That's really neat, I'm telling you there's nothing better than owning your own operation.

how many Sq Ft is the place? how many theatres, with how many seats each can you fit? it's quite the project...i come from a family that's was built on entrepreneurship, so good luck!
also it will be nice having a scener, that has access to new movies ;) lol jk

if I had to guess I would say it's about 7500 square feet. It's not all that big but it's big enough for a small town. It only has room enough for one screen. I'm not sure how many it seats since all the seats have been torn out it's hard to say. from what I understand, it used to have 712 seats counting what was on the balcony, which held probably 25 - 30% of the seats. when we rebuild it we're going to get rid of the balcony, for two reasons.
1) due to the laws in texas there has to be two stairways leading to the balcony and if we want to modernize the restrooms we have to sacrifice one of the stairways. The place was built with two seperate bathrooms with one toilet each, that just wont work now-a-days.
2) acording to the laws in Kenedy TX, you're allowed to live in a business on main st. so long as the residence is not on the bottom floor. we plan on building the top floor as a house. So what used to be the balcony will now become my living room. even if this theatre doesn't work out I can at least say I have an interesting house, with a big ass TV.

haha sounds cool, 712 seats for one theatre, pretty damn big! can't wait to see the progress you make on it, will be very interesting to watch, do you guys have competition?

for the theatre our closest competition is about 30 miles away. for the video game store the closest competition is about 60 miles away (driving time one and a half hours). for the arcade the closest is a bowling alley, that too is about 30 miles away.

I've updated the look of the website, it looks a lot less home made now.
