    How many burns before a DVD Writer dies? I have burned quite alot of CD/DVD's and I havn't had a problem and booktyping is great I was just wondering how long is should last? Its a Pioneer DVR-108 I think it was made in September 2004 i think thats what it says on the burner not sure.

    You cant be sure about that. Dont know the exact figures but a writer has a MTBF of about 50000 hours. That means that after about 50000 hours they have a defect on avarage.

    I wouldn't worry about it. Before I got a new system, I was using an ancient 16x Plextor CD-RW drive (one of the fastest drives during early 01) and believe me, I burned my fair share of CDs, but it never gave out. I got rid of the entire system in 05 and it was still running strong.

    yeh, it just depends on how you treat it.. i believe Pioneer makes good drives so you should be burnin for a while...

    there is no way to determine how long a dvd burner will last and as for getting a blue ray burner if your willing to spend $500 then go for it

    well if you get the blue ray it wont be bad spending $500 for it because that burner will never burn out due to the fact the media is gonna cost a arm and a leg. and they didnt even develop a chip yet. as for burner life the i/o magic is just good enough to take home from the store once its installed in your pc you can burn 20 games or movies before its done. just my two cents.

    only way to tell if your burner is dead is put in a blank media in doesn't matter if it's a dvdr or cdr, if you hear a clicking noise then your burner is dead...

    oh, if it matters i've burned around 200 dvd's with my nec, so... yeh
