What do you mean by a usb converter?, that like usb to the ide? (Sry i dont know much about usb)

I bought a USB Enclosure to install games with WinHIIP so I don't have to open up my PC to just install a game.
Got it from Modchip.ca so just in case I need it, it also works with USB eXtreme/USB Advance

The HD Loader uses a different format to my knowledge, my bro has a usb extreme 250 gb ext hdd. that is formated as ntfs format. and if you were to use your hdloader i believe it will reformat it. (not sure if it will) A enclosure will be faster at installing games im sure.
-My bad i thought you said you were goin to use usb extreme and hdloader with the same hdd .

Yes USB Extreme and HDLoader use a different format for the hard drive. USB Extreme uses FAT (I think, not NTFS) and pretty much just copies ISOs onto the drive. HDLoader uses it's own format.
You could still use the IDE-to-USB adapter. I use WinHiip all the time with mine... an enclosure makes things a little more time-consuming... and I accidently burned-out one 80GB drive because a piece of wire or dust contacted with the external electronics... so I covered the bottom of the drive in black electrical tape.
