Blockbuster to focus on Blu-ray

Film rental firm Blockbuster is to rent high-definition DVDs only in the Blu-ray format at 1,450 US stores.

Blockbuster said that consumers have chosen Blu-ray over HD DVD in the 250 stores where both were available.

The HD DVD format will still be available at Blockbuster in 250 of its stores as well as via the internet.

I've been suspecting Blu-ray would win in the format battle but this pretty much seals the deal. It is almost all but certain that Blu-ray is the winner.

I still hold to my original prediction that they're both going to crash and burn. BluRay may come out ahead in the end but it won't really matter because they'll both be considered failures.
