getting comp to read cd/dvds

i'm trying to see the files on ps2 games but the computer won't show me, just keeps telling me to put a disc is and i, and the computer for that matter, know theres a disc in there. It might me windows coz i never had this problem with 98 but we just got xp put on.
any ideas as to how i can see the files???

actually it just started working on its own, i don't know why it was having hissy fits before
