Geohot Is Back With Limera1n, new exploit for iOS 4 –

Geohot has made a return and its not on the PS3. He has essentially discovered a new bootrom exploit and called it limera1n. This will jailbreak all iDevices that run iOS 4. Would be interesting to see if he could finish what he started on the PS3!

Bugger all to do with ps3 so not newsworthy for me.

I doubt he'll come back to the ps3. Also this is not really relevant to Sony news.

I wouldn't say **** him, after all his discoveries had some relevance on developing this exploit everyone is using.
Anyway he didn't discover anything, posixninja and comex are really pissed off because apparently this exploit was stolen from chronic Dev team.

Nah I think it was separate exploits, but they were both tethered exploits before Comex discovered a way to un-tether it (combination of a bootrom exploit + userland exploit).
Comex trusted geohot with the userland exploit, and well I guess fame of a comeback got the better of geohot, and released it before SHAtter.
Chronic Dev Team are saving SHAtter exploit for later, although they seem a bit pissed off about it (I would be too...
). However greenp0ison will still be released, but instead using the limera1n exploit (I don't see what the point of greenp0ison being released in a couple of day's is... but there is obviously some reason)
I think this is the story, from what I gather from Chronic Dev's and Comex's twitters.

Geohot discovered a separate exploit, which is exactly why the Dev Team is so furious. Why burn two good exploits, when one can be used for future generation iDevices!

Greenp0ison, will not upgrade the baseband of the iPhone 4, therefore those who rely on ultrasn0w for an unlock, will not be left out in the cold. Limera1n WILL UPGRADE THE BASEBAND, so you will not be able to unlock your iPhone. Plus, Greenp0ison will be a lot less buggy.

From what I gather the SHAtter exploit will still be useful for the next gen if it's kept hush for now, whereas the one limera1n is using is already patched for later firmwares. I can't remember where I read this but if it's true then it makes more sense to save the SHAtter exploit so I dunno why Chronic are arguing. Who knows what really happens behind the scenes. Bunch of kids (albeit genius kids) fighting over bragging rights usually.

I'm glad it happened this way. Limera1n should be used first since it jailbreaks all devices that don't already have an exploit. Shatter's exploit only works on A4 devices, so it should be saved until we see the next iPad model at least. I'm glad Geohot forced their hands.
