For those of us who are in the US, you've probably noticed gas prices skyrocketing recently. With the Iraq situation and now with the refineries in the Gulf Coast shut down after Katrina, is it deja vu again when people waited in line for hours to get gas some 25 years ago?

Locally here in the East Coast, gas price went up 25% within the past 1-2 days. It's gone up about 50% in the past month or two.

Granted that gas prices are still relatively inexpensive here in the US compared to Europe and the rest of the world, it's still getting pretty expensive for those of us who have a long commute everyday.

There are gas stations in the chicago area that are already out of gas. Fortunatly the usa has a large oil reserve and we're using that now.. The colonial pipeline is now up to 60% operation now.. so looks like we'll survive..

It's getting pretty bad over here as well; regular costs $3 at most stations. My Accord isn't as efficient as she used to be so refilling every 7 days is pretty painful. I've been thinking of getting a motorcycle for commuting since they get real good fuel economy and they're zippier than my 3600+ pound four wheeler too.

Parents are thinking of getting rid of their Acura SUV so they can get a hybrid SUV, but I told them to just get a diesel instead. Hybrids still have a lot to prove.

A lot of people say that the prices will never go down since people have proven to be willing to pay such high prices. I bet back in 2001 when we had to pay 1.15 for Premium, we were telling ourselves that hell would freeze over before we'd pay 3.09 for it. But look at us now.

A boycott is the only sure way to get the prices down, but I doubt it'd be too popular.

Gas is really hurting over here also with gas, $3 is the cheapest around here. Lucky for me I only have to fill up about every 2 weeks depending on how much driveing I do.

i doubt we will ever see gas under $2/gallon again, i have switch to riding the bus to get to campus and carpooling and driving less already, i still have to get gas at least once a week which is bad enough, i am going to ask for a raise at work
