Hi ps2newz, i'm a new member and my only purpose is to seek help in the Gamecube scene.

We at maxconsole have been discussing some detailed information about the Gamecube and how we would be able to boot mini-dvds. please take a brief moment to read page 1 of this thread http://forums.maxconsole.com/showthr...5&pagenumber=1 It gives some detailed information about the Gamecube's firmware. The Gamecube actually uses a regular mini dvd-rom drive only with some slight modifications in the firmware. I really hope you have read the page 1, let's continue on

To summarize the events. please take a moment and see the pdf attached below. The pdf stated some Hardware Tools that Nintendo uses. One of the main hardware is the "NR-Writer" it is actually just a DVD Burner(Panasonic Matshita SW-9501), but with some slight firmware modifications that Nintendo made on the pits. The NR Disc is just really a dvd-r technology but it's modified to match the pits of the NR-Writer, The Gamecube itself as well uses a mini-dvd rom with modified pits.

This brings up to a point that the Gamecube doesn't really use a different format, they only diverted the pits, they changed how the traffic goes from a disc, The real Copy Protection that the Nintendo Gamecube have, has something to do with the "PITS" after all... it might be possible to develop a modchip that would be able to make a new firmware flashed onto the mini-dvd rom drive of the GC to reverse technology such "pits" So that we would be able to boot a regular mini-dvd disc in the Gamecube.

btw, I'm also known as "Seeker" at the dms3 forums and i have also seeked help there, I woudn't probably convince the DMS Team to make such a modchip, but maybe PS2NEWZ can perhaps? help? yea i know it's insane to get help to make a modchip, i just wanted to spread this information, maybe someone would be interested.

    Anyway Thank You for Reading

    Regards,
    Optical

Infact all gc games have a barcode on the disc. On some games it can be shown. I'm sure no burner can replicate these barcodes unless you use a GC replication plant. And The gc bios is hidden in a read only chip called the aram which probably has really insane amount of encryption. At least the PSO trick works.

And I'm sure you would have to use that burner to make usable gc copies.

some clever guy circumvented down an original gamecube disc and only the barcode is left on the disc.

    Below is from him:
Okay...Just wanna say I love the pso exploit and everything...But It would so cool to boot cd/dvd-r.
Anyway I decided to study the gc drive and do some tests...just simple things like...
*Lid always open but gc thinks its closed*
-Put in an original game...reads barcode, jumps to middle check if barcode matches game id,jumps to outer edge executes game.
-Put in a cd-r mini...Drive doesnt even spin up (disc doesnt spin).
-Put in dvd-r mini...Same as above.

However...I had an old original that was Fuxed-up so I figured I would atleast try the barcode.
    http://community.webshots.com/photo...118607039iSKJWp
    http://community.webshots.com/photo...118608143szfRNl

Now...when I place my grinded/sanded paper thin original disc under a cd-r mini (blank)...It reads that barcode...spins up the disc and starts to seek *the sequence*...
    -reads barcode and spins up.
-jumps to middle (finds no data) duh!
-It even jumps to the outer edge (finds no data).
    -Back to the middle.
    -Back to barcode.
    -Spins down.

The same applies with Dvd-r mini (blank).

So...I start doing some burning...with the cheap cd-r minis...I allready had the animal crossing iso so I started there!
    -used Gc-tool...extracted iso (inc headers).
-With hex-editor changed the iso.hdr to match the barcode on my grinded/sanded disc..EG (GAFE 2 GBZE).
-used gamecube iso creator to rebuild.
-checked the build with Gc-tool...serial had changed but everything else was good (banner info...developer id...date).

    Time to burn...*nero*.
    -Rename gcm to iso.
-tried mode 2xa...failed (all block sizes)
-tried mode 1...failed (all block sizes)
    -tried udf...failed
    -tried udf/iso...failed

    Clone Dvd...
    -burned but failed.

-CD-R...I dummied her up to the full 185meg.
-DvD-R...using Iso creation wizzard selected 'maximize ISO file size'.

After performing both burns (cd-r/dvd-r) they were not reconized in windows or the gamecube.

I have searched google upside down...but nothing...stories like it reads discs backwards and all that ****.

It seems it reads the barcode great but the way I am burning the media doesnt work.

    Media I've used...
    http://community.webshots.com/photo...118608736LaJPel
    http://community.webshots.com/photo...118609136wWhNuh

And YES i've extacted the appldr.bin,bi2.bin,boot.bin,default.dol,and fst.bin ran them thru hex-edit and made changes to reflect my barcode...But nothing!

    Help Please!
    End

edited: oh he removed the photos... it was there 2 days ago. i guess he realized that his method will not work anyways because the Gamecube uses diverted pits, but i'm pretty sure he made a valid barcode in there.

See? You do it again Messiahfan2003.

Anyway, that software is useless without the hardware and I doubt that a simple firmware hack would be enough to burn NR disc....

no hardware is needed such as the NR-Writer, NR Disc, or the NR Software. once the pits, arrays of the Gamecube's mini dvd-rom drive have been reversed back to a normal mini-dvd rom drive, we would be able to boot normal mini-dvds.

And how are you planning to reverse them?

personally, i don't know how to reverse it and i don't have the required knowledge to make this work, but the whole idea is to develop a modchip that has the ability to reverse technology such pits onto the gamecube's mini dvd drive.
