At the moment there is absolutely no way to play backups and run homebrew on 3.56 firmware....if you are anywhere below 3.56..then just STAY THERE...there are 2 ways to play backups at this moment for people below 3.56:-
1.)buy a jailbreaking dongle(this is an old method)
2.)install a custom firmware of your ps3 that enables you to play backups n homebrew without any hassle.

I and everyone else in this world will recommend you install the custom firmware, here is the tutorial:-

no there is no downgrading for 3.56..or any way to jailbreak it now...only thing you can do now is wait for a cfw to come out for 3.56...wat eva you do dnt update your ps3 anymore. Just be patient for sometime it will come out.

I think kakaroto is working on the 3.56 solution. In the new firmware tool that just got pre-release attention, he said no support for 3.56 yet, suggesting that something will be coming soon. The 3.56 firmware file has also been decrypted and unpacked, I believe by kakaroto as well. So it shouldn't be long.

    thanks to both.
so right now all i need to do is waiting until a new release of jailbreak comes out for 3.56 fw.
a friend of mine told me that is possible to block fw updates, but he didn't told me how to...
can you tell me how can I do it?

when a new fw comes out..and you log into psn, the ps3 will ask you "A UPDATE HAS BEEN FOUND! DO YOU WANT TO UPDATE?"....that is the time you think "SCREW U SONY" and happily press the NO option..simple :P

but i don't have any option to press, after I log into PSN my PS3 automatically start to download the new fw update...
wtf my PS3 have it's own wishes and did what it wants? :O
but there is a small problem too, because my PS3 is virgin about jailbreaking and stuff like that, if I didn't update to 3.56 I couldn't play online... :S

ahh..your auto-download feature is ON, see..go to the settings tab in xmb, den go to system settings...in there the first option is AUTOMATIC DOWNLOAD, turn that OFF. There, now your ps3 will ask you if you want to update or not. And also you can play online without updating your ps3. You can either use that proxy server to play on psn, or change ur dns settings.
