    Hi
if your talking about ftp'ing from pc to ps3 over a lan without a router the answers yes ,
just connect ethernet pc to ps3 and manualy set the ps3 IP address to : 192.168.1.10
set pc IP : 192.168.1.11 ( u might have to change your ruleset in firewall )
on both ps3 and pc set default gateway to : 255.255.255.0
dont worry about dns as its not used.
now just fire up your ftp client and set the ps3 IP ( username and password are left blank )
hope this is what u was asking an it helps

well, I transafer at about 36MB/sec...
what I did is share my wifi internet connection in the network settings, and choose "Local Area Connection" in the combo at the Sharing menu.

PS3 got a whole different IP, different from my regular wifi network IP, and now I transfer big files at ~36MB/sec.
