I need helps...I had two HDD in my system...one sata and one IDE...I left the IDE unplug because I was doing some test and forgot to plug it back on... One of my little bro decides to be a smarta$$ and plug the IDE HDD back on while the computer's running...He did this a couple of time already which explains why my PC wasn't working correctly...

The thing is, I was alseep and he woke up around 4 am to play the computer...He tried to plug it back on and sparks bursted out...PC would boot, no power at all...I'm currently using my older PC now...

What I really want to know is, what else could have been fried as well...I'm sure that a new MotherBoard is a-must but could the cpu go as well?? I know my IDE HDD is still working because I put it back on my old PC and it still boot... Is there a way to test if dead parts or is it best to take it to a computer shop...

Thanks for any help/advice....Yall know I always come here first for any kind of help...alright...take care...

Everything else should be working, but the only way to really find it is to actually test them in another machine.

If the CPU is dead it won't work period; it won't fry anything in a new motherboard. The worst you'll get is some beeping.

I've plugged the power in on an IDE HDD before when the computer was running. All it did was spark and shut my PC off. I couldn't start it back up again so I had to unplug the comp from the back, wait for the extra energy to drain, and plug it back in.

I dunno...I guess anything could happen...I'll try your method, darkstar...hopefully it'll boot again but then I'm sure he fried my motherboard...I'll give a try tho...Guess It's also time to look for new motherboard....What's the best/most reliable brand....I'm cheap so I'm only gonna spend like 50-60 on a motherboard....who make the best MB....?

Chaintechs are a real good afordable board. Anyway... if sparks came out than you would think that more than the motherboard is gone... where do these sparks come from? You may have a PSU problem... maybe from the sudden plugging in of the hdd. So... if you can pinpoint these sparks then maybe you can decide if the problem is past the powersupply or not.

Well like I said.. check the power supply first. Cause I really don't see how plugging in the ide cable would fry the mobo.
