Well, since I got a job on campus for next semester, I've decided I can now waste my money on a handheld since I don't have to save my summer work money to feed myself.
PSP has all the emulation stuff, but that doesn't really matter to much as I can use my PC for that.
So basically, which would ya'll suggest? I'm leaning towards DS cause of Sonic Rush and New Super Mario Bros. Plus its like $60 cheaper. Also seems most PSP games are also on PS2 for the most part.
DS can still play GBA games right?
I really know nothing about DS's homebew capability stuff. I know it can also play download ROMs with use of adapters and shit, but again that doesn't matter to me as I don't steal games.
Is there really anything PSP has over DS? Its more powerful I'm sure, but at the same time I love old school 2D games that DS seems to have more of.

Yes, they indeed can play Gameboy and GBA. basically the psp has way more color, and is nearly (maybe more) graphics as the ps2. the ds isnt as good of graphics, has less colors, and has a tiny chip (game cartrage). my neighbor says "his ds collects dust". if it were me i would get a psp as that is $199 (at wal-mart when i went there yesterday) im positive its 199 now. but then i heard that Wal-Mart might stop getting the UMD movies (why get movies for that thing anyway). o well, used for gameing i believe the psp is better as it can be used as a MP3 player, video player, and as well as an EMU

The DS does offer more games and it is definitely cheaper than the PSP. So far the PSP still does not have that many exclusive games.

However the PSP does have better graphics. Plus it is better for watching movies and listening to music if that is something you are interested in.

DS can play GBA games, but not GB/GBC games (natively; a homebrew GBC emu should be entirely feasible and one may already be written; I haven't checked lately). It also has no GBA link port.

Honestly, having had both, I prefer the DS to the PSP. I had a LOT more fun on my DS and I even used my PSP so little that I had lost it by the time I found a use for it (I found it later to have it stolen on my way to sell it)

Right now, I say get a DS and if you want a PSP, get that later.
If you want music and video, go get a portable video player.

I'm sorry but I'm a homebrew fanatic and I just got a PSP like 2 weeks ago, firmware version 1.5 (the one u can hack anything onto) and i'm addicted I use it everyday at school to play old school games or Need for Speed, Madden, NBA live, ETC, or watch a movie that I put onto the 2GB Memory stick, or mess with the TV's at school using the Universal remote homebrew app haha, or if we didn't have WEP encryption surf the Web...just all around fun console to tinker with

The DS has some awesome homebrew capabilities, like wireless network/Internet capabilities. You can even use IM stuff like MSN, AIM and IRC. Oh and you can use your DS as a remote ... and a mouse for your computer. Very cool. You can also play SNES, NES, MS and GC/GBC games through emulation.

But screw homebrew -- we're after the actual games!

The DS has tons of awesome titles, with more coming up. The PSP has ... nothing.

Get a DS. Actually, get two -- just for the heck of it.

The DS has its own homebrew scene, it has emulators for the oldschool systems, you can play fullspeed GBA on it, it can do just about anything the PSP can do within its own power.

And running backups/homebrew on it is much cheaper to boot.

You should wait for DS Lite though, or import it.
