DREAMCAST newbie! –
07-03-2003,01:32 PM
HEY! Im trying to get into the world of dreamcasts....can anyone point me in the right direction of how to play back-ups on them? Do they require mod chips? Are there game-zones like region-zones on DVDs?
I just need to find some newbie resources on the net to get me going...cheers!

you don't need a chip, there are bootable backups, and for non-bootable backups, there's a boot disc, that you can burn and use to boot.

You might find some info over at the old megagames site. It's where I first got involved with PSX rips years ago. Here's a link to the console starting page:

depending on when yur dreamcast was produced, it should be able to play backups right out the box. a certain model may require a mod chip or it might run fine with the boot disc, I dunno.
there are no "regions" on the games.
if you're looking for backups, all I'll say is look on usenet.
