There is ONE disadvantage to tsop flashing.

If you have a 1.2-1.5 xbox you are limited to 256k bioses, whereas most chips have 1mb, allowing you to use multiple bioses. If you have a early model xbox, hook up a switch have one original bios, and one modded bios. Note that you will only want an original bios if you care about live.

If you dont care about xbox live, then tsop flash the thing and dont even look back. there is no disadvantage to a proper tsop flash.

Xbox Live is the whole reason why people would fight over Xbox or PS2. I need it. Thanks for the info though.

I have heard that tsop flashing is bad, since the bios chip in the xbox is not meant to be flashed more than the first time ms does it. The modchips come with chips that are meant to be flashed over and over.

Just to let you all know, the reason the xbox was working weird was that the bios I used wasn't working right, flashed with x2 bios, and now it is perfect. Just something nice to know incase someone else runs into it.

Im not so sure about that. If all it takes is one jumper to write enable the chip i think it is safe to write over it.I have done ton of tsop flashes and not one has come back to me bad. And i have flashed my bios many many times and have yet to run into a problem.

Anyway if you have an early model xbox, consider the tsop/switch route, it is just as effective as a chip.

ok so, and if your flash failled for any reason, please explain how do you get your xbox fixed

get a chip and don't bother about ****ing tsop flashing method, this method is only "good" for some installer wanting to make more profit fooling customer

Why would tsop flashing be bad ??? It's a reflashable IC, don't make me laugh that it's bad if you reflash it... read one of those IC specs and wonder how many times they can be overwritten... It's bad for M$ but not for the enduser. (no wonder why they changed it in V1.6) TSOP flashing is good if you mod xbox's but and enduser have to buy one of those original games plus need some little knowledge so in the end it costs more than a cheapmod (10 usd).

    regards, Stephen

KaISeR SoZEi: you too know it well that those can BE saved, using
    1, lpc mod
2, a 29 wire homebrew eeprom with the evox reflash trick...

so, saving an xbox when a tsop flash gone bad is not an issue.

    regards, Stephen
