Canadians subscribing to DirecTV ???

My damn wife is nagging me to get a Dish. So we are on the different sites looking at the packages and getting pissed off over the prices. For one thing she wants UPN and WGN and for some stupid, f*cked up, greedy corporate reason they are bundled with premium movie channels on both Bell and Star Choice Canadian providers. Then on the Bell site I noticed a $50 rebate offer for DirecTV and Dish Network Subscribers to convert. WTF, I thought you couldn?t get a DirecTV subscription in Canada legally? I have heard of some people who obtain DirecTV from friends or family in the states and before that they used to hack it here like crazy until those new cards came out.

So are there any Canadians here that have a DirecTV sub and if so how did you get it? Is having a third party American friend the only way? Do they not require the phone connection to verify receivers are in the house they are billed to?

All you really need is an american address for the billing. No phone line is required as long as you don't use PPV over the box. Order your PPV online.
