Anybody been hit by this virus? I updated my Norton Antivirus so I didn't get it, I also have a NAT firewall so that took care of it. Anyone get it?
Also, seeming that most of you are good at computers, I've been making cash off people removing the virus for like 30 bucks. So far I've made about 150 dollars. Not bad for 5 minutes of work :) . Just a suggestion to anyone in need of a quick buck.
ha, i had it, ended up finding the patch before it hit the news, and ended calling the dude back at Best Buy and telling him how to do it,(cause i called them asking for help) but he aint know, he said he had like 20 comps. wit the virus Shit i should of made a couple bucks, but oh well

I had it. I just searched for Msblast and deleted the 2 files I found.
Microsoft is ****ing stupid. Lookie what I found. Google dcom.c, compile it, scan some ranges, tftp over some files and you've got yourself a rooted box.

hehe...another waste of Microsoft's developer's time....all you have to do is run the friggin' patch. If it's already installed, it just goes to the final page of the install and there's no reboot.Quote:

Great idea.
Now they've got Network Engineers/IT Pros scanning all the systems to see if they need the patch, then going back and installing the patch...complete waste of time.
About making a quick buck or two...
Just burned the patches for each flavor of affected Windows on a CD-R, than threw the Blasterworm removal tool on a floppy. Insert Cd, run patch, reboot if nec., run fixblast.exe from floppy, and you're done. I've updated and scanned up to 5 comps at a time. Billed about 12 hrs over 3 days and cleared over $200 after Uncle Sam and his cousins got their share. All it costed was a cheap-ass CD-R and a Floppy. Gotta love that kind of return! hehe

and what exactly does this virus do?
i swear there are really alot of backdoors when it comes to windows... microsoft sucks ass... (not that i never knew that!)

Symptoms vary depending on the OS. Win9X systems are pretty much immune to some of these RPC exploitation viruses (Blaster, Welchia, etc) because they exploit an RPC hole in the security of NT based systems (2000, XP, etc). The symptoms run from a forced shutdown or reboot several minutes after the desktop loads, to complete system freeze during or immediately after the desktop loads. The only way around it is to boot in safe mode with Administrative log-on, apply the security patch, scan with a removal tool (or directly edit the system files manually and delete the bogus svchost files--big pain in the @$$!), then reboot. Before a solution was discovered, people had to boot from the install CD/boot floppies, run a Repair Install, then immediately apply the patches from Microsoft after successful booting (MAJOR pain in the @$$!).
It's a shame that the bulk of all the problems could have been prevented if everyone had updated their Winblows with the security patches Micro$oft released back in May-July. While it wouldn't have stopped the spread of the viruses, it would have at least kept them from crashing their systems.
