Looking for some opinions on the best way to convert AVI files to Mpeg without the clarity/quality and audio going to hell so that I can burn some of the anime I've collected to DVD-R to use in my home DVD deck.

I've tried Ulead's DVD Workshop for the conversion, but wasn't pleased with the results (and of course I probably didn't have the settings optimized...)

Tried the Google thing (I do heed my own advice before asking ) which is where I came up with DVD Workshop. Was just curious as to what other folks might have had success using...

    heres what ive used

    http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm

works great. but if you .avi is encoded with VBR (variable bitrate) Audio then you'll have to go into VirtualDub and re-compress the audio layer for every file before you can convert to .mpg (tmpgenc just gives an error)

and that site also has some good dvd authoring progs & tutorials
