Avi Encoding question –
06-26-2003,10:34 AM
Ok guys, I just don't know what to do anymore. Here is my problem. I have a divx avi file.I have converted the ac3 audio portion of it to wav using goldwave (came out fine). I want to try and turn the avi file to an svcd. When I use Tmpg I set eveything up ( you know put set the avi file as the video source and set the wav as the audio source). I start it but when it gets around 20% completed it either does 3 things. 1. My whole computer locks up. 2.I get blue screen error and my pc resets it self. 3.It gives me a read error and and stop encoding. I don't know what the problem is. I think it is heat but I am not sure. I have encoded some other movies to vcd and they work fine. I have tried using concide mpeg encoder (I think I spelled that wrong) an it does the same thing. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help guys

www.dvdrhelp.com would be a much better place to get an answer for a problem like this.

Dig around for the latest copy of DVDX and give it a shot. I think the last release supported importing .avi's directly. This will process the Audio and Video at the same time (no audio extraction and remuxing required) and you can select the bitrates for audio and video so you have control over the final output size and quality. I used to use this a long time ago for DVD -> VCD/SVCD creation and it worked quite well (you can rip the DVD main program chain with SmartRipper or DVD Decryptor to hard drive and encode directly from the ripped files to mpeg stream)
Good Luck!
