Anyone that knows copyright rules. When you rip scenes from movies making GIFS for avatars? Any comments?

Thanks for your comment but could you please explain. How it can be that there is a size limitation. I just don't want anyone buging me if I get an avatar from a movie.

copyright laws permit people to make 30 second clips (or smaller) without penalization. I know this is true for music under ASCAP. Should hold true to video as well.

as for avatar size limit, check the user control panel.

edit - 100x100 pixels max or 19.5KB. whichever is smaller.

Great thanks for your effort. I guess the 30 seconds is important for those that sells for instance mp3:s for sample use.
It helped alot but here I got the specifiks.
Don't know how valid the source is but if it's telling the truth about what you said then it should be valid for this and I quote:

"up to 10% or three minutes, whichever is less, of a copyrighted motion media work (for example, an animation, video or film image)"

    Source:

So I guess even you know just a little bit more.
